Join us for a morning of art, collage-making and community fun. Bring your family and friends. 

Too often, we believe that we need to purchase new materials in order to keep a sketchbook or journal. But what if you could create your own affordable sketchbook with low-cost materials? 

If you’ve thought about learning to draw, but you are new to it or hesitant to get started, this workshop will help you to banish blank page syndrome. Instead: we will start with a collage medium to inspire you. 

Join us in this interactive workshop to make an eco-friendly pocket sketchbook. The sketchbook will be about a postcard size that is easily portable and fits in your purse to take on the go. 

You will be using an artist’s curated collection of found papers, kraft papers, stickers, washi tape and other materials. All art materials will be provided. 

This workshop stresses how you can create a series of images to tell a story, without stressing over the imperfections of drawing or writing.

Time permitting, the artist will work with you to help you choose your subject for your new pocket sketchbook so that it will feel the most authentic and personalized to you.  

Presenter bio:

Clara is a certified nature journaling educator, and she is a longtime resident of Santa Clara. As a working mom, she enjoys nature sketching on-the-go and creating drawings in an imperfect way.

Clara helps curious people to slow down and appreciate the small moments through nature-based approaches, using mediums such as sketching, journaling and storytelling. Her preferred medium is ink and watercolor. Sometimes she also dabbles in other crafts, such as crochet, mosaics, poetry-writing and stamp card-making. She also enjoys hiking and traveling with her family.

Currently, her favorite nature books is An Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake and The Blue Machine: How the Ocean Works by Helen Czerski.
