There are two options for hiking backpacks available for checkout from the Santa Clara City Library:

Our Parks for Life Backpacks contain fun items for an outdoor hike, including binoculars, field guides to wildflowers and birds, a compass, a magnifying glass, and more! These packs are great for beginning hikers or families who just want to get outside.

Our Hiking Backpacks also contain important equipment including binoculars, a compass, wildlife and wildflower guides, and more. These backpacks are a little sturdier than our Parks for Life Backpacks and are a good choice for slightly longer or more strenuous hikes. They also include their own set of hiking poles!

These backpacks are not appropriate for overnight backpacking trips.

Check out a set of Black Diamond hiking poles to make your next hike more comfortable. These poles are adjustable for hikers who are 5'1" (155 cm) or taller.

Are you camping or hiking somewhere that requires bear-safe containers? Put your scented items (food, toiletries, etc.) in one of these bear canisters to keep your belongings safe from curious creatures. We have smaller canisters for trips of 3-4 days and larger canisters for longer trips.

The California State Library Parks Pass is a vehicle day-use pass that can be used at more than 200 participating California State Parks.

The Library also offers "Lucky Day" passes, which are available on a walk-in basis only. These passes cannot be reserved (even over the phone) or renewed. Check our catalog to see which locations have passes available.

All passes check out for three weeks. Please return them on time so other community members can enjoy this free service!
