Meet Last Year's Teen Library Leaders!
Niyati (Santa Clara High, 12th grade), Andrea (Santa Clara High, 12th grade), Long (Santa Clara High, 10th grade), Miraya (Santa Clara High, 11th grade), and Aishwarya (Wilcox High, 10th grade).
What is "Teen Library Leaders"?
Teen Library Leaders provides an opportunity for Santa Clara’s young adults to build their leadership skills by developing and participating in library programs and events, as well as becoming library advisors and advocates. At the start of each school year, only three-five teens will be selected to become library leaders. However, ALL teenagers are welcome to attend our monthly meetings and have a say!
Qualifications for Teen Library Leaders
- Must be in High School
- Must be a City of Santa Clara resident, or attend school within the Santa Clara Unified School District
- Have a strong interest in the library and/or serving their community
- Enjoy working with people of all ages and cultures
- Be willing to learn new skills
- Complete all required onboarding for volunteering with the city
Benefits
- Gain new skills such as program planning, organizing, communication, and leadership skills
- Receive community service hours
- Learn about other volunteer opportunities at the library
- Meet new people and make new friends
- Have your opinion and voice heard
Expectations
- Attend and be fully present at monthly meetings
- Assist with library programs
- Help create and/or host for the library community, specifically for children and teens
- Maintain excellent communication with library staff and peers
- Be kind and respectful to peers, customers, and staff
- Be involved with the City
Any High School Teen Can Join the Program!
Even if you aren't selected as a Teen Library Leader, you are still welcome and encouraged to come to the monthly meetings to have your voice heard and make a difference. You may be selected for the next school year!
Information for next school year's meetings will be ready in August.
